Ga-Nala local SMME’s have shown great growth and more understanding of business principles after going through the ESD training programme sponsored by Exxaro Matla Coal.
The training programme assists entrepreneurs to meet the procurement requirements of mines or other large corporates in order to participate in tendering opportunities. Programme also helps aspiring entrepreneurs take their ideas to the first level of commercialisation through crafting a business modelling and planning document.
As of 31 December 2020, there were10 companies owned by 10 entrepreneurs in the Exxaro-sponsored portfolio. Half of the entrepreneurs are female and half male, with 100% youth representation in the Enterprise Development programme and 67% youth representation in the Supplier Development programme.
Mbali Nkosi from Thee Heroine (Pty) Ltd., a laundry SMME based in Kriel, says she is a better entrepreneur, she now makes better informed decisions, and this is all thanks to Exxaro. “I have learnt to unlock and apply the potential in me. I had the potential but never knew how to apply it until I attended this programme. I can boldly say “I am an Entrepreneur, a boss lady, a chief female”.
“Being on the programme has assisted my business to grow and function differently.
I would specifically like to send my greatest gratitude to Exxaro for choosing my business to be part of the programme and for doing such a generous thing sponsoring such programmes for us. Thank you for considering small businesses, believing in them and unlocking the potential in us through the programme,” said Mbali.
“We have always longed for such opportunities, but we were never afforded. It means a lot to us. You are turning the world around just by turning a little community like ours,” concluded Mbali.
Nomvuyo Ketiso from Dyrex, says the programme has shaped her into a strong businesswoman. “I gained confidence in myself and I now believe in my products and services. I can now manage my business well, and focus on giving good service to my clients,” she said.
