Thor Explorations first results from its 2026 drilling programme have expanded the gold footprint at the Douta project in Senegal, as the miner works to add oxide ounces following this year’s pre-feasibility study.
The programme returned high-grade and shallow intercepts across Baraka 3, Makosa Tail and the Bousankhoba licence. At Baraka 3, results included 7.0 metres grading 4.28 grams per tonne gold from 122 metres, 18 metres at 1.31 grams per tonne from 90 metres and 5.5 metres at 2.91 grams per tonne from 185 metres.
At Makosa Tail, Thor said drilling indicated mineralisation extends beyond the perimeter of the current pit design, with intersections including 4 metres at 3.26 grams per tonne gold from 24 metres and 4 metres at 3.06 grams per tonne from 20 metres.
Bousankhoba delivered the standout grade, with first-pass drilling at Sekhoto North returning 4 metres at 17.0 grams per tonne gold from 7 metres, alongside 4 metres at 4.56 grams per tonne from 6 metres. Thor said follow-up air-core and reverse-circulation drilling has been designed to test extensions and support future resource evaluation.
Chief executive Segun Lawson said the ongoing 40,000-metre programme is targeting an extension of the “low cost, high margin Oxide Ore Phase” at Douta.
The company anticipates full permitting and the start of construction later this year.
