Mines and Minerals Development Minister Paul Kabuswe says the country is by the end of 2025 expected to increase copper production to above 1 million tonnes.
Mr. Kabuswe says the target of 3 million tons of copper production by 2031 is in sight and expressed hope that it will be attained.
The Mines Minister said this during a high-level panel discussion on Policy to Achieve the Three Million Copper Production Target by 2031.
This was during the ongoing Mining and Investment Insaka in Lusaka, Zambia.
And Finance Minister Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane said reaching the 3 million copper production target requires a lot of team work and that there is need to make sure that the tax regime is competitive in comparison with other mining countries.
Dr Musokotwane said Government has ensured that there is tax stability and that supporting industries such as transport can help the country realise the target.
Meanwhile, Infrastructure Minister Charles Milupi said it is imperative that Government puts in place a level of infrastructure that assures investors that their produce will reach the markets.
Mr. Milupi said all support services needs such as energy, infrastructure and trained personnel are in place.
