AuKing Mining expands strategic presence with Machinga Rare Earths acquisition

Key Highlights
  • Heavy rare earth element mineralisation defined over a 2km strike length at Machinga.
  • Exceptional heavy rare earth enrichment of 28-30%, outperforming many ionic clay deposits.
  • Geological system analogous to the $320 million Ucore Bokan-Dotson Ridge deposit.
  • AuKing is fully funded to advance exploration immediately after acquisition completion.

AuKing Mining has agreed to acquire the 200km² Machinga heavy rare earths project, marking a significant step in expanding its strategic critical minerals portfolio in southern Malawi. Exploration is set to begin immediately after the acquisition is completed.

This acquisition comes at a time of increasing global and US demand for reliable supplies of heavy rare earth elements, especially dysprosium and terbium, which are critical for advanced technologies.

Project overview and strategic value

The Machinga project features mineralisation defined over a 2km strike length and includes valuable elements such as niobium, tantalum, zirconium, uranium, and rare earth element anomalies. Recent drilling in 2023 revealed near-surface heavy rare earth oxide (HREO) grades of 28-30%, an exceptional enrichment that compares favorably with other lower-grade deposits.

AuKing’s Managing Director, Paul Williams, commented: “The acquisition of Machinga is an important part of our strategy to build a portfolio of high-quality critical minerals projects in Malawi. Historical exploration and recent work by DY6 Metals/Tusker Minerals confirm Machinga as a highly prospective heavy rare earth and niobium project.”

He added, “With its peralkaline geology and strong HREO results, Machinga has the potential to become comparable to major North American deposits like Strange Lake and Bokan Mountain.”

Conveniently located just north of the city of Zomba in southern Malawi, the project is easily accessible by road, which supports efficient exploration and future development.

This acquisition positions AuKing Mining to play a vital role in the global supply of critical heavy rare earths, supporting the growing demand for these strategic minerals in advanced technology sectors worldwide.
