Naloba urges greater support for Namibian-owned mining firms ahead of Mining Expo
The Namibia Local Businesses Association (Naloba) is calling on the government and private sector to strengthen backing for locally owned mining and exploration firms, aiming to boost their role in Namibia’s mineral industry. This appeal comes ahead of the Mining Expo, set to take place in Windhoek from 4 to 6 August 2026.
Naloba Vice President Peter Amadhila highlights that while Namibia is recognized as one of Africa’s top mining destinations, the sector remains largely dominated by foreign companies. He stresses the importance of creating a more balanced ecosystem where Namibian-owned companies can also thrive alongside international investors.
“We respect and value international investors because their capital, technology and expertise have contributed significantly to developing Namibia’s mining sector. However, the time has come to build a stronger ecosystem where locally owned mining and exploration companies can also thrive,” Amadhila said.
He questions when Namibia will produce more successful black-owned mining contractors capable of leading major projects, noting that Namibian entrepreneurs possess the skills and determination needed to discover and develop world-class mineral deposits. Yet, they face ongoing challenges such as limited access to financing, technical support, investment opportunities, and clear policy backing.
“These challenges can be addressed through deliberate government policies, stronger partnerships between local companies and international investors, and increased support for Namibian mining and exploration businesses,” Amadhila added.
He underscores that Namibia’s vast mineral wealth should translate into locally led mining success stories. Empowering Namibian companies not only creates jobs and develops local expertise but also retains greater economic value within the country and strengthens the sector for future generations.
“Future mineral discoveries should not only attract international investment but also showcase the capacity of Namibian-owned companies to develop and operate successful mining projects,” Amadhila concluded.
