Zambian nickel mine starts production

First Quantum Minerals announced commercial nickel production at the Enterprise mine in Zambia. Initial tests showed positive results, with output increasing from 4,031 tons in Q1 o 6,147 tons in Q3, 2024. These results have enabled the company to start commercially-producing Nickel.

Built and commissioned by First Quantum Minerals, the facility started commercial production within two years of discovery. The company now aims for an annual production target of 17,000 to 20,000 tons.

Anthony Mukutuma, Director at First Quantum Minerals, stated that “Long term, First Quantum shall expand its exploration program in Zambia, with an initial focus on the areas around our existing operations, followed by prospective new sites across the country’s mining regions.”
