LB\u00a0Engineering\u00a0Services\u00a0announced last week that it had been awarded the contract for the drying\u00a0system\u00a0for the MV Grand Banks life extension project by marine mining company\u00a0De Beers\u00a0Marine.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the company noted that it had completed train loading station (TLS) and stacker projects\u00a0 for the\u00a0Assmang Black Rock Mine\u00a0Operations\u00a0(BRMO), in addition to completing\u00a0projects\u00a0for consumer goods company\u00a0Unilever Nigeria\u00a0and\u00a0cement\u00a0manufacturer\u00a0PPC.\r\n\r\nThe MV Grand Banks alluvial diamond concentrate\u00a0exploration\u00a0vessel will be anchored at\u00a0Cape Town\u00a0harbour\u00a0to undergo a major upgrade.\u00a0ELB\u00a0notes that part of the upgrade comprises the removal of the obsolete drum drying\u00a0system and replacing it with a\u00a0pneumatic\u00a0Drycon drying\u00a0system.\r\n\r\nELB\u2019s scope for the\u00a0project\u00a0includes the\u00a0design, manufacture, factory\u00a0testing, delivery and commissioning of a\u00a0pneumatic Drycon drying\u00a0system\u00a0rated at 1.5 t\/h, while supplying the mechanical, structural, piping,\u00a0electrical\u00a0and\u00a0instrumentation aspects.\r\n\r\nCape Town-based\u00a0engineering, procurement and\u00a0construction\u00a0management company\u00a0PBA Projects\u00a0is responsible for erection of the drying\u00a0system, with\u00a0ELB offering\u00a0installation\u00a0support and guidance.\u00a0ELB\u00a0will also be responsible for C1, 2, and 3 commissioning dockside, with C4 commissioning to be undertaken at sea.\r\n\r\nMeanwhile,\u00a0ELB\u00a0has completed a rapid TLS and stacker\u00a0project\u00a0for the Nchwaning manganese mine, in the Northern Cape. Nchwaning forms part of BRMO and is operated by\u00a0Assmang, a subsidiary of\u00a0mining\u00a0investment company\u00a0Assore and diversified miner\u00a0African Rainbow Minerals.\r\n\r\nThe TLS has been operating at its nominal capacity since its handover in October 2017 without any major incidents or issues. The first\u00a0Transnet\u00a0Freight\u00a0Rail\u00a0104 wagon test train was successfully loaded using the\u00a0system, in January.\r\n\r\nThe two stackers, complete with their associated yard\u00a0conveyors, have also been operating since October 2017. The machines have been stacking material at the designed nominal stacking rate.\u00a0ELB\u00a0notes that both\u00a0projects\u00a0are in the close-out phase.\r\n\r\nELB\u00a0also supplied\u00a0Unilever Nigeria\u00a0with a new sack tipping\u00a0system\u00a0containing an integrated filter\u00a0system\u00a0to keep the sack tip unit dust free while the loading process is in operation. The sack tip unit will be mounted on top of an existing mixer to assist in providing a dust-free\u00a0environment\u00a0for workers.\r\n\r\nThe company completed the Clinker Loading Upgrade\u00a0project\u00a0at\u00a0PPC\u2019s Colleen Bawn Clinker factory, in\u00a0Zimbabwe.\u00a0ELB\u00a0notes that increasing demand for\u00a0cement\u00a0in\u00a0Zimbabwe and neighbouring territories necessitated an upgrade to the loading facility, located 160 km south of Bulawayo.\r\n\r\nThe\u00a0project\u00a0entailed demolishing the existing elevated overland conveyor and open-ended loading\u00a0system, and replacing them with an automated\u00a0system, including a new elevated conveyor, a new loading tower, a motor control centre and control room. The acceptance criteria included being able to load a 30-rack train within six hours.
